Yes. Since 1 January 2026, every foreign visitor must hold health and accident insurance with at least 30,000 GEL (~$11,000) of coverage, and it is checked at the border. Without a qualifying policy you can be denied entry.
Georgia introduced a mandatory health-insurance requirement that took effect on 1 January 2026. It applies to foreign nationals entering the country, and border officers can ask to see proof.
What counts as a qualifying policy
- Minimum coverage of 30,000 GEL (roughly $11,000) for medical and accident expenses.
- Valid for the full duration of your intended stay.
- Covers treatment within Georgia.
What happens if you don't have it
